Book on Historic Roots, Culture and Traditions of Ramakshathriyas by K L Shilahar

The above book was written and published in 1983 by late Mr.Kumble Lakshmana under the pen name of K L Shilahar. The book was released on the occasion of Golden Jubilee of D K District Ramaraja Kshathriya Seva Sangha, Kasaragod by Dr Kamalaksha who presided over the function.

The book has forewords by leading intellectuals of our community, namely Dr B Rameshchandra Rao, M.Sc, Ph. D., F. A. G. E. ( Professor, Mahaveera College, Moodabidri), Dr U Ramadasa Rao, M.A., M. Sc., Ph. D., Senior Professor of Chemistry and Retd. Principal, Madras Education Service and also by Mr Balayya Nayak, A National Award winning Teacher from Byndore.

Dr B Rameshchandra Rao had represented India in international scientific conference in England. Prof. Uppoor Ramadasa Rao stood first B.Sc. examination of Madras University securing a gold medal and later went on to become a Senior Professor and Principal in the same University. He is probably the first doctorate in our community. Mr Balayya Nayak won Best Teacher award at National level.

The book also has an endorsement by community elders like Mr Keekana Ramachandra, the then President of South Kanara Sahitya Parishad, Sri B. Gopalakrishnayya , C.E., A.M.I.E. , Retd. Supdtg Engineer, Smt. B. Susheela, Superintendent, Govt. Teacher's Training Institute for Women, Mangalore.

On the whole , it appears that Mr Shilahar had taken pains to involve the whole community in formulating the contents and approach for the book. Judging from his foreword the book seems to be the result of author's efforts and the co-operation he was able to invoke from one and all. The author thanks gifted young literary genius Kum. Rohini and Kum. Gayatri for working on the manuscript of the book containing about 125 pages, Sri B. Jayarama, Mangalore Jatisangha Secretary and Mr Jeppu Vasudeva, B.E, M.I.E., M. I. Struct. Eng., Jeppu, Mangalore who sponsored the printing of the book. The book 's cover page is beautifully illustrated by Master Yogananda, grandson of the author. The bibliography enumerating 60 titles gives an idea about the amount of research done by Mr Kumble before penning this work. Besides forewords, Introduction etc. the book has 9 main chapters followed by some annexures and finally a profile of the author by Sri Lakshminarnappayya , Retd. Superintendent. R.T.O. Mangalore.

The whole contents of the book including forewords, endorsement, introduction etc. make gripping reading. The book clearly depicts the love and emotional attachment of the author towards his community.
